The IRS has set the deadline to file your 2024 tax return on April 15, 2025. Since a tax refund payment is generally received within 21 days, payments will also continue in May. So, there will be some taxpayers who receive their money in April and others in May. It will depend on the date you have filed your return.
On average, as of March 14, 2025, the IRS has paid direct deposits worth $3,330. That is the average direct deposit so far. In fact, it is 4.8% higher than in 2024. Bear in mind that it was $3,177 last year. Those who have more tax liability may see a lower refund or they may not get a payment at all.

Taxpayers who filed from March 22 through March 31 will get in from April 12 through April 21. Those filers who submit it on April 1 will get their direct deposit on April 22.
Why has my IRS tax refund not arrived within 21 days?
It is possible that your tax refund is not in your bank account within 21 days for several reasons. The requirements to get it in just three weeks are simple. You must have filed electronically, requested direct deposit, paid your taxes, and sent an accurate and complete return.
So, if you are not in this situation, it is more than likely that the IRS will need to review your tax return. If so, the Agency may need to request further information. Check the “Where’s my refund?” tool for updates.
