Where will maximum SNAP payment amounts be the highest in 2025?

Where will maximum SNAP payment amounts be the highest in 2025?

If you live in one of the 48 contiguous States or in the District of Columbia, you could get up to $292 from SNAP if you are single or up to $1,756 if you are living in a household with 8 members. However, even if this may seem like a large Food Stamp payment, it will not be the highest benefit payment amount in 2025. Actually, there are 2 States with higher benefit amounts.

For example, if you live in Hawaii and Alaska, you will get a lot more if you qualify for the full amount in these 2 States. What is more, there are 2 territories that also provide beneficiaries with larger benefits than in the 48 contiguous States. The reason is simple, citizens living there have to face higher inflation and need more money to buy the same groceries.

Alaska will issue the largest SNAP benefit payments in 2025

Even if you are a single person on SNAP benefits in Alaska, the maximum amount for one is a great deal more than in the 48 contiguous States. Depending on the area where you live in Alaska, you can get a higher or lower payment. For instance, it can be up to $377 for 1 person in urban areas, up to $481 in Rural 1, and $586 in Rural 2.

Families with 4 members in Alaska can get up to $1,258, $1,604, and $1,953 (urban, rural 1, and rural 2 respectively). Something in between these maximum amounts will be the maximum amount for 2 in Alaska. Couples and 2-member families can receive up to $692, $882, $1,074.

Families of 8 can receive the largest SNAP payments in 2025 in Alaska. The maximum amounts can be up to:

  • $2,265 if you live in an urban area in Alaska
  • $2,888 if you live in Rural 1
  • $3,516 if you live in Rural 2

Hawaii will issue the second-highest SNAP benefits in the U.S. in 2025

SNAP recipients in Hawaii will also receive larger payments than in the 48 contiguous States. This is possible even if they got a reduction after the latest Cost-of-Living Adjustment on October 1, 2024.

Remember that SNAP benefit amounts changed on October 1, 2024, and will remain the same through September 30, 2025. Check the new maximum amounts after the 2025 COLA reduction:

  • 1 recipient $517
  • 2 recipients: $948
  • 3 recipients: $1,357
  • 4 recipients: $1,723
  • 5 recipients: $2,046
  • 6 recipients: $2,456
  • 7 recipients: $2,714
  • 8 recipients: $3,102
