This Year the Average IRS Tax Refund Is Bigger Than Anyone Expected

Three Things You Must Evaluate When Picking a Place for Retirement in the US

December 18 will be the next payment date that the Social Security Administration has confirmed for SSDI recipients who qualify. To receive money from the Agency on this date you must have been born from the 11th to the 20th, have filed after April 30, 1997, and cannot be receiving SSI benefits. If you meet all these requirements and have not broken SSA rules, you will get a check of about $1,542 on average in your bank account.

Another possibility is that you have already collected your SSDI check or direct deposit for December. If so, you may need to wait for the January 2025 payments with the COLA increase either on January 3 or January 8.

Will there be an SSDI payment after December 18?

Actually, there will be a new SSDI payment on December 24, 2024. This will be your payday if you got benefits after April 30, 1997, do not get SSI, and were born after the 20th.

The average payment will be the same as in all the other disability insurance benefits in December. Although most SSDI payments are due on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday in December, there has been an important change.

Social Security has rescheduled the December 25 payment and the disability benefit will be issued 24 hours in advance. SSA cannot send checks or deposits on a Federal Holiday, so that is the reason why this change will take place.

Maximum SSDI amounts in December 2024

Before the Social Security Disability Insurance payments increase due to COLA, the maximum benefit is $3,822. After the COLA increase, the new maximum amount will be $4,018.

In order to get such a large payment you must have:

  • worked for 35 years
  • earned the contribution and benefit base for 35 years or more
  • file at the required age
  • have jobs covered by SSA
  • having a qualifying disability

If your SSDI payment is too low, and you cannot make ends it, it is high time you applied for SSI (Supplemental Security Income) and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.
