USDA has scheduled SNAP payments for March 1, 2025. Most States will start on the first, but there are many that will begin delivering Food Stamps much later. The largest Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefit amounts will be in Alaska ($586), Hawaii, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands ($376).
The 48 contiguous states will share the maximum SNAP payment worth $292 for 1 person through September 30, 2025. It will not be until after that date that the 2026 COLA will come into effect. On average, Food Stamps are much lower, e.g. $199 for an individual in the 48 contiguous States.

How is the SNAP payment amount determined for individuals and families?
The SNAP benefit amount depends on the household’s income, expenses, and size. Households need to pass income and asset tests to qualify.
To calculate the benefit:
- Gross monthly income must be at or below 130% of the poverty line (for a family of 3, $2,798/month for FY 2025)
- Net income (after deductions) must be at or below 100% of the poverty line
- Assets must be below 2,750(or2,750(or4,250 if elderly/disabled member)
Deductions include a standard deduction, 20% earnings deduction, child care, child support, medical expenses over $35/month, and excess shelter costs.
The benefit equals the maximum allotment for the household size minus 30% of the household’s net income. For FY 2025, the maximum monthly allotments are $292 for a 1-person household, $1,756 for an 8-person household
