IRS will send eligible taxpayers tax refunds this week

The IRS started the 2025 tax season on January 27, 2025. It will not be until April 15 when the Internal Revenue Service announces this tax season’s deadline has come. Not all Americans have filed their 2024 tax returns yet, but many have already done so.

On average, as of February 7, 2025, tax refunds are worth $2,065. When it comes to direct deposit, they are worth $2,165. Thus, they are even higher than the average refund amounts. Both average refunds and deposits are so far 18% higher than in 2024. Still, statistics need to level out though.

Who is receiving an IRS direct deposit this week?

To receive a tax refund this week you must meet several requirements. In the first place, you must have filed an accurate and complete tax return. Secondly, you must have filed electronically.

Third, you must have opted for direct deposit instead of a paper check. For your information, tax refunds usually take about 21 days if all is correct. Here are the possible paydays, so check when the IRS could deliver your deposit:

  • Tax refund payment may arrive on February 24: if you filed on February 3, 2025
  • Tax refund payment may arrive on February 25: if you filed on February 4, 2025
  • Tax refund payment may arrive on February 26: if you filed on February 5, 2025
  • Tax refund payment may arrive on February 27: if you filed on February 6, 2025
  • Tax refund payment may arrive on February 28: if you filed on February 7, 2025
  • Tax refund payment may arrive on March 1: if you filed on February 8, 2025

Use the IRS “Where is my refund?” tool

The best and easiest way to track your tax refund is to check the IRS tool “Where’s my refund”. In this way, you will find out if your tax refund is delayed or the day it will be in your bank account.

For your information, the information will not be on the IRS tool immediately. In fact, you must wait for at least 24 hours once you have filed your 2024 tax return.

Paper returns can take much longer to be updated. The IRS will only update the tax return and tax refund information once per day, so there is no need to log in every now and then.
