RSDI stands for Retirement Survivor and Disability, so let’s explore average amounts. Many Americans wonder what average checks and direct deposits are like.

The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance provides checks of about $1,892.73 on average. If the only RSDI payments taken into account are retirement benefits, they can be about $1,929.20.

What is the average Social Security payment for retired workers?

Retired workers get the highest average check if compared to SSDI and SSI recipients. Currently, it is about $1,978.77. For your information, the figures released in January unveiled it was almost 1,976.

So, retired workers average payments keep increasing gradually. Spouses of retired workers can also receive Social Security payments. Actually, they are about $931.28.

Even some children can get Social Security on the retired workers’ record. Thus, their average payment is $919.02. Survivor benefits average payments are:

  • eligible children: $1,135.54
  • widowed mothers and fathers $1,302.44
  • Nondisabled widow(er)s: $1,835.82
  • Disabled widow(er)s $951.26
  • Parents of deceased workers: $1,684.81

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) & SSI average amounts

SSDI payments are about $1,439.53. As of January 2025, the average payment for a worker with a disability is worth $1,580.67. If you are a spouse of a worker with a disability on Social Security, you may get about $431.53 on average.

Even your children could get money from the SSDI program. Children of workers with a disability can receive 510.02 dollars on average. Last but not least, SSI average amounts have been updated too. Although the maximum amounts are $967 for individuals and $1,450 for married couples, average payments are about $714 claimed Social Security.

The older you are, the lower your average payment will be. For example, seniors aged 65 or older get about $590 on average. Those aged 18-64 get about $762 and $834 if aged under 18. The last Social Security payments will be due on February 19 and 26. SSI will arrive on February 28, 2025.
