Thanks to the Social Security Administration (SSA) all the March SSDI and SSI payments are 2.5 percent higher than in 2024. This COLA (Cost-of-Living Adjustment) took effect on December 31, 2024 for SSI. However, if you receive Social Security Disability Insurance, your payments did not include the increase until January 3, 2025, if you were eligible.
Bear in mind that some SSDI recipients qualify for the Wednesday payments. These disability benefits are issued on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday in March. Hence, they must wait for their check or deposits with the boost until later in the month. Others get it on March 3 if on benefits before May 1997 or if on SSI benefits as well.
SSDI benefits with COLA in March 2025
This SSDI payments will arrive on either March 3, March 12, March 19, or March 26. To get money on the third, you can either be on SSDI and SSI, you qualified for both benefits, or you must have begun getting SSDI payments before May 1997.
The other paydays will be for those who are not on SSI and got benefits after April 30, 1997. However, they meet the birthday requirement. If you were born on the 1-10, you payment will be in your bank account on March 12.
If it is from 11-10, on March 19. The last check will be issued on March 26 if you were born from 21-31. The COLA has boosted SSDI payments by about $38 on average. The former average payment was $1,542, after the COLA increase it has become $1,580.
SSI recipients get COLA before SSDI beneficiaries
The Supplemental Security Income payment will be delivered on April 1, 2025. Thus, they will be the first Americans to get a monthly payment next month. Retirees and Disability Insurance recipients need to wait until April 3, 9, 16, 23, 2025.
The new maximum amounts for SSI will be $967 for individuals, $1,450 for eligible married couples, and up to $484 for an essential person. The boost they received seemed to be smaller because the amounts are lower than for individuals on SSDI.
On average, SSI recipients get $714 in 2024, but it depends on the age group you are in whether your average Supplemental Security Income payment is lower or higher.
