If you are an SSDI or SSI recipient, the Social Security Administration has announced when eligible recipients can collect their next payment. Bear in mind that only those recipients who have filed and gotten approval can qualify. Even if a person can receive both Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income, they get funds in a different way.
SSI is a Federal program and SSDI gets funding from the Social Security Administration. So, the Disability Insurance is only for workers who have paid enough taxes to SSA and who have a qualifying disability that prevents them from working for over a year. The maximum and average payment amounts are also different.
SSDI and SSI payments confirmed
The Agency has confirmed that the next Social Security Disability Insurance payment will take place on April 16, 2025. Some recipients of this program got their monthly payment either on April 3 or April 9, but others are still waiting for their paper check or direct deposit. Only those who need to change their direct deposit for any type of benefit must prove their identity in an SSA office.
The SSDI payment on April 16, 2025, will only be for those recipients who:
- filed and received Social Security Disability Insurance after April 30, 1997
- remain eligible (e.g. still has a qualifying disability)
- has not broken SSA rules
- was born from the 11th to the 20th
The SSI payment for all eligible recipients will be on the same payday. As a matter of fact, it will be delivered on May 1. Bear in mind that the payment for April was deposited on April 1, 2025. The last SSDI payment in April will be sent on April 23, 2025. The only different requirement will be the one dealing with the birth date. To get these benefits on the 23rd you must have been born from 21-31.
SSDI and SSI payment amounts in April & May
The average SSDI payment is worth $1,580 while SSI recipients get about $715 on average. However, when it comes to maximum amounts, Social Security Disability Insurance can be much higher.
For example, if you are on Disability Insurance and you qualify for the maximum amount, you can receive up to $4,018. To get so much money you must have earned the contribution and benefit base for 35 years, filed at the required age, and have jobs covered for at least 35 years too.
The maximum SSI payments will be up to $967 if you are an individual. SSI recipients who are married and both qualify for this Federal benefit can get up to $1,450.
Even an essential person on SSI benefits can receive a different payment amount. Their monthly payment can be up to $484. For your information, all the SSDI and SSI payments include the 2025 COLA increase.
