The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program is a federal assistance program administered by the United States Social Security Administration (SSA). It provides monthly payments to persons who meet specific income and resource limits, and who are either disabled, blind, or over 65 years of age.
The SSI payments are meant to help cover basic needs, like buying food, paying for housing, and buying clothes. The actual amount paid depends on a person’s monthly income, specific living arrangements, and whether the person receives other benefits. Many states also provide their own state supplementary payments (SSPs) to be added to the federal base amount.
Changes coming to the SSI allotments
Payments are generally made on the first of each month. However, if the first falls on a federal holiday or on a weekend, the Social Security Administration advances the payment to the last weekday of the previous month. The definition of a weekday for this purpose is Monday through Friday, but not a federal holiday.
This rule is intended to make sure the beneficiary has access to the benefits during the actual month, not a delay that could affect their ability to pay bills. The schedule for October and November 2025 is unusual because of this rule.
This is what’s happening next
The October 2025 payment is made on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, because this is the first weekday of October in 2025. The date for the November payment, the first of November, is a Saturday in 2025, a non-weekday for this purpose. It thus must be advanced to the last weekday of October, which is a Friday, October 31, 2025.
This means, under this rule, recipients of SSI not getting other Social Security benefits will get two payments in October. Schedule of payments for October and November 2025 The receipt of two payments in the same month is not, under any circumstances, an extra or additional payment, but a routine change in the payment schedule.
Maximum SSI amounts to be delivered this month
It does not change the total annual amount to which the person is entitled. December 2025’s schedule would be, by the same logic, December 1, 2025, the first weekday of December 2025, if this is not subject to a change in the schedule caused by holidays.
But, for those recipients who receive both SSI and traditional Social Security benefits (like retirement or disability insurance, SSDI) — who are a very small number of recipients of monthly benefits — the date of the social security payment is selected according to the Social Security schedule, based on the recipient’s date of birth.
The maximum SSI payment possible, for those with the correct circumstances, could be eligible for up to $967 (for single recipients) or up to $1,450 (for couples filing jointly).
