This Is the ”Comfortable” Number an American Should Have Saved for Retirement

RSDI refers to Retirement, Survivor, and Disability Insurance benefits. While most recipients need to work and earn Social Security credits to get them, some Americans can qualify as a spouse or child on the worker’s record. In general, you need 40 work credits to get retirement benefits at the age of 62.

However, it will depend on your personal situation because SSDI benefits may require fewer credits due to a medical condition. To get Survivor benefits, the deceased worker must have paid enough taxes too. To know if you or your family may be eligible for benefits simply download your SSA Statement.

The Social Security Administration will deliver RSDI payments from April 3 through April 23. While the first payments will only be for 2 different groups of recipients, the Wednesday payments will be for those whose birthdays fall on certain days.

  • RSDI on the 3rd: If receiving Supplemental Security Income and RSDI
  • April 3 payment: if on Social Security before May 1997
  • Retirement, Survivor, and Disability Insurance benefits on Wednesdays:
    • April 9: if you were born before the 11th
    • April 16: if you were born before the 11th
    • April 23: if you were born before the 11th

How much can RSDI give recipients in April?

Survivor benefits provide recipients with the lowest average direct deposit or check. It can be about $1,547 on average, as of February 2025. Amounts differ among types of recipients.

For example, a disabled widow(er) receives an average payment of $951, and a nondisabled widow(er) receives an average payment of $1,837. Retirees can get up to $5,108 but on average about $1,980.

Are you receiving SSDI benefits? Then a Disability Insurance benefit can be up to $4,018 and about $1,580 on average. If you think your monthly payment is too low, you may want to apply for SSI. It can give you up to $1,450 if you are an eligible married couple.
