SSI payments will arrive a day early on February 28, 2025, due to March 1 weekend

The next Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment will be distributed on February 28, 2025. Actually, it should have been scheduled for March 1, 2025, but it was not viable.

For your information, the Administration cannot schedule or issue payments on the weekend. What is more, it is not possible either to do that on a Federal Holiday. That is why there has been this change of payday for the SSI program.

SSI cannot be issued on March 1

March 1 is Saturday. As it was stated previously, the Social Security Administration can never pay on those days. As a result, the only way to avoid this situation is to issue the Supplemental Security Income payment on the previous business day.

So, all SSI recipients who qualify for this program will receive their payment on February 28, 2025. It does not really matter if it falls in the previous month or if it is 24 hours ahead of schedule.

By doing so, the Agency wants to make sure that no SSI recipient gets their money late. Supplemental Security is for low-income Americans, so they rely on this money to make ends meet. Sending payments on time is essential then.

Social Security SSI: March Payments Scheduled for February – Check Your Amount

Supplemental Security Income payments will include the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment and checks can be up to $967 for individuals. If you are an eligible married couple on Supplemental Security Income, it could be a lot more.

Currently, the new and updated maximum amount for couples who both qualify is $1,450. The lowest payment will be for essential persons who can only receive up to $484.

On average, SSI payments are the lowest if compared to Social Security Disability Insurance or retirement benefits. They are about $696 as of December 2024. Seniors get about $575 on average. If you are aged 18-64, the average payment for your age is $743. Those under 18 can get about $812 on average.

What steps can I take if I disagree with my SSI payment amount?

Request a reconsideration within 60 days of receiving the initial determination notice. You can file the request online, by mail, or by fax. Provide additional information to support your case. ssa.gov | ncoa.org

If the reconsideration is denied, ask for a hearing with an administrative law judge within 60 days. The hearing can be in-person, by video, or by phone. Submit evidence and explain why you disagree with the decision.

If you don’t agree with the judge’s decision, request an Appeals Council review within 60 days. The Appeals Council will grant, deny, or dismiss your request. It may issue a decision or return the case to the judge.

If you disagree with the Appeals Council’s decision, you can file a civil action in U.S. District Court as a last resort. You must do this within 60 days.

Consider appointing a representative, such as an attorney, to help with your appeal. Free legal aid may be available if you can’t afford a lawyer. The SSA can provide referrals.
