Social Security survivor benefits on Feb. 3: Eligibility

The first way to be eligible for survivor benefits on February 3 is to have been receiving Social Security since before May 1997. Therefore, February 3 will not be your next payday if you began collecting survivor benefits after April 30, 1997, unless you are in the following situation.

For your information, a way to avoid this restriction is to be receiving Social Security benefits and SSI payments at the same time. Do you receive both benefits simultaneously?

If so, your next survivor benefit will be in your bank account on February 3 as well. Do not worry if you are receiving survivor benefits but you do not qualify for the February 3 payment. Actually, there will be other paydays on February 12, 19 and 26, 2025.

Social Security updates survivors average amounts

It was this month when the Social Security Administration unveiled the new average payments for all sorts of benefits in the United States. As of December 2024, the average payment for all survivor benefits is $1,545.

However, there are other possible average amounts depending on your situation. Children who qualify for survivor benefits will receive about $1,333.60 on average claimed SSA.

Widowed mothers and fathers receive about $1,316.11 on average from the Administration. Nondisabled widow(er)s receive about $1,832.47 from the Agency. If you are a disabled widow(er), your average payment for survivor benefits is about $951.06.

Parents receiving survivor benefits get about $1,675 on average. If you need more information about Social Security average payments, visit SSA’s official site at: https://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/quickfacts/stat_snapshot/.
