Social Security Payments in March 2026: Two Pending Groups Wait On Their Money

Retirees may rely on Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments if they have a low income. As a matter of fact, there is an important change regarding the payment date.

The Administration has confirmed that the next SSI payment will be delivered on January 31, 2025, instead of February 1, 2025. Therefore, this monthly payment will be issued in advance. Even if it is just 24 hours ahead of schedule it could be a game changer for low-income recipients.

The SSI payday before Social Security

The Supplemental Security Income benefit is always sent before the Social Security payments. Thus, if you also receive retirement benefit payments, you will need to wait until February 3 to get your check or direct deposit.

One of the two ways to qualify is to be on both Supplemental Security and Social Security. Nevertheless, you can also receive it if you are only receiving retirement benefits.

Retirees who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 will also get their monthly payment on February 3, 2025. As for the amounts, SSI payments can be up to $967 (single) or up to $1,450 (married). Retirees can get about $1,976 on average, but if you rely on Supplemental Security, it may be a lot lower.

Another change for SSI in March

The Social Security Administration has confirmed that there will also be a change in the March payday. SSI checks and direct deposits will not be delivered on March 1, 2025.

Instead, the agency has confirmed that the March payment will be paid on February 28, 2025. The February and March changes are for a simple reason. These Federal payments cannot be issued on the first because they fall on Saturdays.

SSA always schedules payments on business days. Thus, they will be in your bank account on Friday rather than on Saturday. No doubt this is the best way to avoid delays since banks and other financial institutions will be closed.
