The Internal Revenue Service confirms that its offices will be closed on Federal Holidays. The most recent closure of offices due to a federal holiday was Monday, February 17, Washington’s Birthday also known as Presidents Day. After this important day, there will be 8 more national holidays that affect opening days.
The IRS has also made an important reminder for millions of taxpayers in the United States. As a matter of fact, many Taxpayer Assistance Centers will offer extended office hours from January 21, 2025, through May 1, 2025.

How to prepare for an IRS appointment in person
The first thing you should do is call the IRS. Then, you will need to schedule an appointment in advance. Do not leave the arrangement of your appointment to the last minute. It may mean the dates available are after the April 15, 2025, deadline.
Keep in mind that you should take with you a current Government-issued photo ID and two original forms of ID. If you have already filed your 2024 tax return do not forget to take with you a copy of the tax return you have just filed.
