Find out when IRS offices are closed in 2025

The Internal Revenue Service confirms that its offices will be closed on Federal Holidays. The most recent closure of offices due to a federal holiday was Monday, February 17, Washington’s Birthday also known as Presidents Day. After this important day, there will be 8 more national holidays that affect opening days.

The IRS has also made an important reminder for millions of taxpayers in the United States. As a matter of fact, many Taxpayer Assistance Centers will offer extended office hours from January 21, 2025, through May 1, 2025.

IRS informs taxpayers of the legal holidays

Check below the full list of Federal Holidays in the United States:

  • Monday, May 26: Memorial Day
  • Thursday, June 19: Juneteenth National Independence Day
  • Friday, July 04: Independence Day
  • Monday, September: 01 Labor Day
  • Monday, October 13: Columbus Day
  • Tuesday, November 11: Veterans Day
  • Thursday, November 27: Thanksgiving Day
  • Thursday, December 25: Christmas Day

Now you know when IRS offices will be closed in 2025, you must be wondering how to make an appointment. Of course, if you cannot sort something out using the Agency’s online tools.

How to prepare for an IRS appointment in person

The first thing you should do is call the IRS. Then, you will need to schedule an appointment in advance. Do not leave the arrangement of your appointment to the last minute. It may mean the dates available are after the April 15, 2025, deadline.

Keep in mind that you should take with you a current Government-issued photo ID and two original forms of ID. If you have already filed your 2024 tax return do not forget to take with you a copy of the tax return you have just filed.

Other acceptable forms of ID are a driver’s license, passport, Social Security card, State identification card. To make an appointment locate a Taxpayer Assistance Center nearby.
