Whether you are currently receiving Social Security payments or not, you should check your eligibility for this Federal payment. SSI is the Supplemental Security Income and it can provide eligible recipients with payments of up to $967 per month. This is the maximum amount and not all recipients qualify. Thus, reductions may apply if you have other earnings, savings, or benefits.

The first thing to check if you would like to apply for SSI payments is if you meet one of these 3 requirements. These monthly payments are only for people with a disability, people who are blind, or people who are at least 65 years old. The conditions the Social Security Administration has set for these Federal payments are not over. If you meet one of them, you must have a low income and little or no resources too.

How can I check eligibility for an SSI payment?

The Social Security Administration has prepared a brief questionnaire that will take up to 10 minutes. Once you have answered all the questions, Social Security will let you know the benefits you could receive in 2025.

Therefore, all you have to do is visit their official website (see link below). The questions will be easy to answer. The first one has to do with your age. For your information, SSI benefits can be for both adults and children.

That is why your birthday will be necessary to answer this brief quiz. Then, the Agency will ask you about your work history. Whether you have paid taxes or not is key. Those who have worked for at least ten years and earned 40 work credits may also qualify for retirement benefits. Another question will be dealing with any medical conditions you may have.

SSI payments are also for married couples

Sometimes, a married couple can qualify for monthly checks or direct deposit from the Supplemental Security Income program. In this case, you could receive up to $17,400 per year if you both qualify.

Being a single recipient means you can get up to $11,604 per year. Thus, SSA will also ask you if you are married or not to see the possible future payment amount.

Do not forget that the Agency will also make a few questions about income and resources. Having difficulties buying clothes, food, or paying rent may help you qualify for SSI payments. Tell SSA if anyone in your household gets other benefits (e.g. TANF, SNAP, and so on). They will also check the money you have in investments or your bank account.
