California Powerball Player Narrowly Misses $443M Jackpot but Still Wins Big

A Powerball player in California came strikingly close to changing their life forever after nearly hitting the $443 million jackpot—but they didn’t walk away empty-handed. The winning ticket matched four white balls and the red Powerball, earning the holder $63,554, according to officials from the California Lottery. While it wasn’t the top prize, the win is still a significant one in one of the nation’s most popular lottery games.

The lucky ticket was purchased at Northgate Market in Bell, a city located just 10 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. The draw took place on Saturday, March 22, and while no one won the grand prize, the event still created hundreds of thousands of smaller winners across the country. The next drawing is scheduled for Monday, March 24, with the jackpot climbing even higher—estimated at $461 million, with a cash value of $217.2 million.

Powerball Numbers and Nationwide Wins

The winning numbers drawn were 6, 7, 25, 46, 57, and the Powerball was 12. The Power Play multiplier was 3x, increasing potential non-jackpot winnings for those who opted in.

Nationwide, more than 825,000 tickets scored prizes ranging from $4 to $150,000, showcasing the wide appeal and reach of Powerball. The last time someone claimed the grand prize was on January 18, when a lucky player in Oregon walked away with $329 million.

What to Know About Powerball

To claim the jackpot, players must match all five white balls plus the red Powerball—a feat with odds of 1 in 292,201,338. Despite the long odds, millions of hopefuls participate in each draw, chasing the life-changing potential that Powerball offers.

Drawings take place three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. ET. Tickets can be purchased until shortly before each drawing, though deadlines and prices vary by state. Powerball is available in 45 states, along with Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and draws can be viewed online.

As the jackpot continues to rise, the excitement builds nationwide, and stories like this California winner remind players that even a near miss can result in a major payday.
