SSDI payments will be last sent on the 26th of this month. Then, all recipients will have to wait for the Social Security Administration to issue new checks and direct deposits in March 2025.
To qualify for the February 26 payment, SSDI recipients must have been born from the 21st to the 31st. What is more, they cannot be receiving SSI benefits or cannot have collected payments before May 1997.
SSDI payments worth $1,439 on average
According to SSA’s Monthly Statistical Snapshot for January 2025, the average benefit for all Disability Insurance recipients is worth $1,439. However, the average payment for a worker with a disability is higher.
On average, workers with a disability get about $1,580. For your information, not only can workers with a disability receive Social Security Disability Insurance payments.
As a matter of fact, their family, spouse, or child, can also get SSDI payments if eligible. A spouse of a worker with a disability can get $431. Those recipients whose children qualify can receive $510 on average.
Does the February 26 SSDI payment include the 2025 COLA?
Actually, all the Social Security Disability Insurance payments in February and in the upcoming months include the 2025 COLA increase. Therefore, if you are receiving a Disability Insurance payment for the first time, you are receiving 2.5% more than you would have done in 2024.
COLA increases are for SSDI, SSI, and retirement benefits. They come annually when inflation goes up. Bear in mind that Social Security will not unveil the 2026 COLA increase until next October.
The Senior Citizens League has made a couple of predictions so far. The first COLA prediction was about 2.1%. After that, the latest Cost-of-Living projection has gone by 0.2%.
Thus, it has become 2.3%. Anyway, it will take a few months to know if the 2026 COLA increase will be higher than the one for 2025. So far, it seems to be lower which means retirees and SSDI recipients can get less extra money than in 2025.
