Social Security Schedule for September 2025

Social Security Schedule for September 2025

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has established the schedule for the distribution of monthly benefits for September 2025. Payments will go to retirees, survivors’ benefits, and recipients of the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs.

The disbursement sequence is defined by a specific protocol that considers the beneficiary’s date of birth and the type of benefit they receive, but, some get their payments in a fixed date. A peculiarity of the September calendar is the change in the frequency of payments.

This is due to an adjustment for the coincidence of a payment date with a federal holiday. As a result, beneficiaries will receive a smaller disbursement compared to other months of the year. Distribution will occur on specific days throughout the last days of August and throughout September.

September 2025: The Social Security payment dates

The official schedule details that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are routinely issued on the first day of each month. At the same time, benefits for individuals who began receiving benefits before May 1997 are sent on the third day of each month. For those who receive both SSI and Social Security, disbursements are made separately on these two dates.

The remaining payments, which correspond to the majority of modern beneficiaries, are distributed by birthdate over the Wednesdays of the month. Funds are processed on the second Wednesday (September 10th) for beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the month.

The third Wednesday (September 17th) is allocated for those born between the 11th and 20th. Finally, the fourth Wednesday (September 24th) is allocated for beneficiaries with birthdates between the 21st and 31st.

This procedure is subject to modification when the scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or federal holiday. In such circumstances, SSA regulations stipulate that the disbursement must be advanced to the first business day prior to the due date. This rule is responsible for the change in the payment schedule for September 2025.

SSI and SSDI payment dates: What to know

The reason for advancing the SSI payment to Friday, August 29, is because September 1, 2025, falls on Labor Day. Consequently, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their next October payment on the regular date, Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Payment amounts vary depending on an individual’s contribution history and retirement age. For 2025, the maximum monthly Social Security benefit for an individual who retires at full retirement age is set at $4,018. For those who choose to delay retirement until age 70, the maximum monthly benefit increases to $5,108.

Regarding the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, the maximum federal amounts for 2025 have been defined. For an eligible individual, the maximum payment is $967. For a couple where both spouses are eligible for the program, the joint maximum is $1,450. For an “essential person,” the benefit is set at $484.

If you receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), your payment will fall on the same dates as the retirement groups, according to your birthdate: this applies for those who first claimed disability payments after May 1997.
