Social Security and the SSI payment schedule for January 2025

The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program grants 1 payment per month. However, if you pay close attention to the Social Security Administration’s payment schedule, there is no payday on January 1, 2025. Bear in mind that this Federal payment is generally issued on the first day of the month. Since eligible recipients have a low income and little to no resources, it is important that they receive their checks early in the month.

However, there is no need to worry about it because the SSI payment will not be issued on January 1, 2025. In fact, there is great news for those Americans with a low income receiving money from the Supplemental Security Income program. Their check or direct deposit will be delivered in advance.

One less SSI payment in January 2025 stated Social Security

The SSI payment for January 1 will be sent on December 31, 2024. Since New Year’s Day is a Federal Holiday, the benefit payment due on January 1, 2025 had to be rescheduled. In this way, there will be no possible delays in having SSA’s offices and banks closed during that important celebration.

Do not forget that the Social Security Administration only schedules 12 payments per year, so there are no bonuses or extra payments even if there are 2 SSI paydays scheduled for the same month.

This is happening in December. The SSI check for December was delivered to the recipient’s bank accounts on December 1. Besides, the January payment will be sent on December 31, 2024.

How much will SSI recipients get on the payment dates Social Security set?

The amount of your SSI payment on December 31, 2024, will be higher than on December 1, 2024. In fact, all recipients will get 2.5% extra. It will mean receiving 2.5 dollars extra for every 100 dollars they receive from this Federally funded payment.

The largest SSI payment an individual can receive will be up to $967, up from the current amount of $943. An essential person will also benefit from this 2025 COLA increase and will get up to $584.

Eligible married couples are now receiving up to $1,415, and this amount will increase to $1,450 after the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment increase. If you have a low income, no savings and you have a disability (blind too) or are aged 65 or older, apply as soon as possible to get these checks.
