Social Security Gap: How Much You’ll Get if Claim Retirement 62 vs 70

Five Tax Mistakes That Could Cost Taxpayers Money Before the IRS April 15 Deadline

When people think of retirement, they tend to think about the Social Security payments workers get at the age of 62 or after it. However, it is possible to qualify for a monthly check or direct deposit if you are in a different situation. Take for example spousal benefits which are provided on the worker’s record even if their spouse never paid taxes to the Administration.

What is more, some qualifying children can also receive money from Social Security on the worker’s record. Undoubtedly, this is great financial support if you rely on retirement benefit payments to make ends meet.

How much are Social Security spousal benefits in retirement?

The exact amount a spouse can receive in retirement depends on the worker’s benefit amount. Nevertheless, it is possible to get an idea of what a spousal benefit could be like.

This is feasible by simply having a look at the average amount a spouse receives from Social Security. As of December 2024, the average payment for a spouse of a worker on retirement benefits is worth $930.

Children of retired workers can get about $917. Therefore, it is a considerable amount of money and all spouses should check if they qualify for this Social Security check or direct deposit as soon as their spouse applies.

When will the next checks and deposits for retirement be issued by Social Security?

The next three payments will depend on your birthday. For example, if you were born from the first to the tenth, your Social Security retirement payment will be in your bank account on February 12, 2025.

The other payday will be on February 19 if your birthday falls on the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th or 20th. Thus, this will be the second round of Wednesday payments in the United States.

The last retirement payment for Social Security beneficiaries will be issued on February 26, 2025. It will be the payday for both spouses or retired workers. If you began collecting benefits before May 1997, March 3 will be your next payday. Also, if you are on both SSI and Social Security.
