Retirees Born Between the 1st and 20th Will Not Receive the Next Social Security Payment Until September

Retirees Born Between the 1st and 20th Will Not Receive the Next Social Security Payment Until September

Social Security beneficiaries in the United States follow a payment schedule that depends on their date of birth. For August 2025, retirees born between the 1st and the 20th of any month will not receive another payment until September, since their checks were already issued earlier in the month.

The next round of payments is scheduled for August 27, 2025, and will be sent to beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 21st and the 31st. This payment distribution follows the official calendar published by the Social Security Administration (SSA), which divides retirement benefits into three cycles each month. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, on the other hand, receive their payments on the first of the month, with an additional advance payment in August 29 due to the Labor Day holiday.

Payment Schedule for August 2025

According to the SSA, the payment dates for August are as follows:

  • August 13: Retirees born from the 1st to the 10th
  • August 20: Retirees born from the 11th to the 20th
  • August 27: Retirees born from the 21st to the 31st

This means that retirees with birthdays from the 1st through the 20th have already received their benefits in August. Their next scheduled payment will arrive in September, following the same cycle.

In addition, SSI recipients received their monthly payment on August 1 and will get a second payment on August 29, which serves as the advance for September, since September 1 falls on a federal holiday.

How to Request Help if a Payment Has Not Arrived

If a beneficiary does not receive their Social Security payment on the expected date, the SSA recommends taking the following steps:

  1. Allow three business days after the scheduled payment date before reporting a missing payment.
  2. Check with your bank to confirm if the deposit has been processed or delayed.
  3. If the payment is still missing, contact the Social Security Administration:
    • Phone: 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800-325-0778)
    • Visit a local SSA office
    • Access the “my Social Security” account online to review payment status and personal information

These channels allow retirees to verify the status of their benefits, request a trace for missing payments, or update their payment method if needed.
