U.S. SSI Payments Advance Recipients to Get Funds on February 28 2025

U.S. SSI Payments Advance Recipients to Get Funds on February 28 2025

Even if the U.S. Government funds the Supplemental Security Income program, it is the Social Security Administration the agency in charge of administering SSI payment dates in the United States. Therefore, SSA may sometimes need to adjust the payment schedule to make it more efficient and reliable for recipients.

Bear in mind that Social Security wants to ensure that SSI payments are always on time. That is why the Supplemental Security check will be delivered on February 28, 2025, instead of March 1, 2025. Many citizens may think that this is not an important change, because it is just 24 hours in advance. However, this program is for citizens with a low income so it is a financial relief.

SSI will be paid on February 28

This will be the only payment date for all SSI recipients in the USA. Of course, this payday will only be for those who filed and received approval from the administration.

Needless to say, this Federal payment is only for those who remain eligible. For example, if you have had earnings over the limit, you will lose your eligibility. That is why it is a must to report any changes in your personal situation, for example:

  • getting married
  • having a new job
  • receiving money from any source
  • having a baby

These situations could either stop or increase your SSI payments. So, the change could also be beneficial when you report it.

What is the average SSI payment?

According to the Social Security Administration, SSI checks are about $696 on average. If you have a look at the average amount by age group, the older you are, the lower your payment seems to be.

This may be because older recipients also get Social Security retirement benefits. Thus, it reduces your payment amount a great deal. SSI recipients aged 65 get about $575 on average.

If you are aged 18-64, you can receive about $743 on average. The average payment for those under 18 is about $812. For your information, if you do not get any reductions, the full amounts are:

  • $967 (single)
  • $1,450 (married)
  • $484 (essential person)

How does the SSI payment amount compare to the costs of living in different U.S. states?

The SSI payment amount varies by state and is often not enough to cover the full costs of living. Here are the key points:

The maximum federal SSI benefit in 2024 is $943 per month for an individual and $1,415 for a couple. The amount received can change. It depends on the recipient’s income, living situation, and other factors.

Most states provide supplemental SSI payments in addition to the federal benefit. In 2023, the average state supplement was $207.67 a month. This applies to states where the Social Security Administration (SSA) manages the payments.

Some states, like Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Dakota, Tennessee, and West Virginia, don’t offer state supplemental payments.

The state supplements vary widely. For example, the average supplement ranges from $37.28 in New Jersey to $483.61 in Hawaii among states where the SSA administers payments.

Overall, while SSI provides important financial assistance, the benefit amounts are generally modest compared to typical living costs and vary considerably based on location. Recipients in many areas still struggle to make ends meet on SSI alone.
