IRS Refund April 2026: Who Will Receive Their Deposits Between April 12 and 19

Do not worry if you have not started gathering all your documents. The IRS has set the deadline to file your 2024 tax return on April 15, 2025. Social Security is also helping taxpayers by reminding them of how to get their 1099 or 1042S tax forms.

The sooner you gather your tax forms and file your tax return, the faster you will receive the tax refund direct deposit from the IRS. The Administration allows taxpayers to download a copy of their 1099 or 1042S tax form for free.

Why do you need Social Security tax forms 1099 or 1042S for the IRS?

These Social Security forms are essential to report your retirement or SSDI income to the IRS. So, when you file your 2024 tax return, the Internal Revenue Service can check the money you get from benefits.

As a matter of fact, most taxpayers receive a copy of the 1099 or 1042S in the mail. However, you may have recently changed to a new location or it may be delayed due to severe weather conditions.

Thus, there is no need to wait for Social Security to mail you this form. By downloading it, you can file much faster than if you have to wait for the forms to come by mail.

How can I get Social Security tax form 1099 or 1042S to provide this info to the IRS?

All you need to get any of these two forms is to sign in to your my Social Security account. Thus, if you have not created an online account yet, it is time to do so. Make sure you file and pay before April 15 to avoid IRS penalties.

Some American taxpayers may currently be living abroad. Take for example members of the military. So, if you are not able to access Forms 1099 or 1042S online, they can contact the Federal Benefits Unit: https://www.ssa.gov/foreign/foreign.htm.

No need to worry if you are currently receiving Supplemental Security Income. SSI payments are not taxed. Hence, if you are only receiving SSI benefits, the Administration will not issue a tax form because you do not need it.
