The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has confirmed that the 2025 tax season will start on January 27, 2025. Thus, you will have from that day until the April 15 deadline to pay taxes, file, and claim any tax credits you are eligible for. The Earned Income Tax Credit is a great way to increase your tax refund or reduce the tax you owe in 2024.

Therefore, if you are a worker or a family, you should check if you are eligible for this tax credit the IRS offers. The Agency recommends using the EITC Assistant.

How does the IRS EITC Assistant work?

Taxpayers can use this calculator to find out if they are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. What is more, you will also discover if you have any qualifying relatives or children.

As a matter of fact, the IRS EITC Assitant will provide taxpayers with an estimated amount if they qualify. Of course, this is an approximate amount and it will not be accurate if you do not provide precise information.

The IRS EITC Assistant will also be able to help you find out your filing status for your 2024 tax return. Great news because this tool is free and you will be able to access it on the Agency’s website. Visit it at: https://apps.irs.gov/app/eitc

What does the IRS require taxpayers to use the EITC Assistant?

For your information, to calculate the amount of your Earned Income Tax Credit in your 2024 tax return, you will need six key things:

  • Income statement: W-2s
  • Income statement: 1099s
  • Documents that show the taxes withheld
  • Documents to prove the money paid to you
  • Any expenses
  • Any adjustments to your income

The IRS reminds taxpayers that their security and privacy will be its utmost priority. The Agency will not request sensitive information when you use the EITC Assistant. For example, your bank account number, address, or Social Security number will NOT be necessary.
