Three New Rounds of Payments Confirmed by the Social Security Administration in April

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will begin to distribute payments to two priority groups of beneficiaries in early April 2026. Tuesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 3, mark the first deposit dates of the monthly cycle, affecting millions of people who rely on SSI and Social Security as their primary source of income.

After the unusual circumstances of March, April returns to the regular Social security payment schedule. This means that each group will receive their payment on the scheduled date without any advances or delays, since none of the key dates fall on a weekend or a federal holiday.

The first disbursement of the month corresponds to Supplemental Security Income, known as SSI. This program, also administered by the SSA, is intended for elderly, blind, or disabled people who also prove income and assets below the thresholds established by federal law.

Who will receive SSI on April 1st?

The standard federal SSI payment for individuals is $994 monthly. Couples in which both spouses qualify for the program receive up to $1,491 per month. April 1st falls on a Wednesday, so no advance payment mechanism applies. The deposit will arrive on the indicated day in the account holders’ bank accounts or Direct Express cards.

SSI does not distinguish between retirees and active workers: eligibility criteria are based solely on financial need and meeting medical or age requirements. Those who receive this benefit simultaneously with Social Security are also included in this first group of payments for the month.

The second disbursement of the week will take place on Thursday, April 3. On that date, those who began receiving benefits from the Social Security program before May 1997 will receive their payments. This is a segment of beneficiaries with a longer tenure in the system. Payments for those who, as mentioned, receive benefits from both programs, SSI and Social Security at the same time, are also due on this date.

The Social Security amounts in effect in 2026

In this group, the amounts vary depending on each person’s work history, years of contributions, and the age at which the benefit was requested. However, there are official references that allow for an understanding of the scale of the payments. After the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of 2.8% implemented in 2026, the estimated average benefit for a retired worker is approximately $2,071 monthly.

For couples in which both members are beneficiaries, the average amounts to about $3,208 per month. Widowed mothers with two dependent children can receive, on average, around $3,898, while workers with disabilities who have a spouse and children average about $2,937 monthly.

At the top end of the scale, the maximum possible benefit for someone retiring at full retirement age (FRA) in 2026 reaches $4,152 monthly.

These values represent maximum and average amounts. The exact amount each beneficiary receives is shown in their individual history within the SSA portal and may vary significantly depending on the circumstances of each case.

The rest of the calendar for April 2026

Once the payments of April 1 and 3 have been distributed, the SSA continues the cycle with three additional dates organized according to the birthdate of the beneficiary.

Those born between 1 and 10 will receive their payment on April 8. Those born between 11 and 20 will receive their payment on April 15. And those whose date of birth falls between the 21st and 31st will receive the deposit on April 22.
