Social Security benefits dates for the last weeks of August 2025

The payment schedule established by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for the month of August 2025 has followed its usual course. The sequence of payments, which spans several weeks, is designed to organize the flow of millions of transactions in an orderly and efficient manner.

The agency divides recipients of Social Security benefits into four main categories, determined by the type of benefit received and, for retirees who began receiving payments after April 1997, by the beneficiary’s date of birth.

First SSA disbursement: SSI and long-standing retirees

With three of the four scheduled dates already executed within the month of August, the disbursement cycle is in its final phase. Only one group of beneficiaries remains awaiting receipt of their allotment for the eighth month of the year. The end of the calendar is scheduled for the last week of August.

The first payment date on the August 2025 calendar occurred on August 1. On that day, deposits were processed for beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income program, known by its acronym SSI. This program is aimed at elderly or disabled individuals with extremely limited income and financial resources.

Simultaneously, those retirees who began receiving their monthly benefits prior to May 1997 also received their payment. This particular group of beneficiaries is excluded from the birth date-based distribution system, so their payment is invariably set for the first business day of each month, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls.

This combined payment on August 1 represents one of the most significant group within the SSA’s monthly scheme. It groups a vulnerable population that critically depends on SSI funds and a contingent of retirees with more than two decades of history within the system.

Distribution for post-1997 Social Security retirees by birthdate

For the remaining retirees, those who started receiving their benefits from May 1997 onward, the SSA applies a staggered payment schedule governed exclusively by their birthdate. The deposits are scheduled for the Wednesdays of each week, successively covering all the days of the month on which a person might have been born. This system repeats monthly without changes.

The second Wednesday of the month, which corresponded to Wednesday, August 13, was the date assigned to the first group within this category. On that day, all benefit holders whose birthdate falls between the 1st and the 10th of any month received their monthly payment.

The next date on the calendar was the third Wednesday, August 20. The deposit on that day was directed at the second group of beneficiaries, defined as having a birthdate between the 11th and the 20th of any month.

Final pending group for retirement payments

The official conclusion of the payment calendar for August 2025 is scheduled for August 27, which corresponds to the fourth and final Wednesday of the month. This is the date established for the remaining group of beneficiaries. This final segment comprises all retirees with a birthdate between the 21st and the 31st of any month.

All of them are limited to receive the up to $5,108, which is the maximum possible to be eligible for. The average for 2025, the closest number to what beneficiaries receive, is somewhere around $1,900 and $2,000, with the current number of every month changing.
