SSDI payment dates Social Security December

Disability benefits can arrive in the form of SSDI or SSI payments. One is the Social Security Disability Insurance while the other one is the Supplemental Security Income. While there are three different paydays left for these disability benefits in December 2024, you will only be able to receive one of them. All SSI recipients will get their January payment with COLA on December 31, 2024.

However, if you are on SSDI the 2025 COLA increase will not be issued in the remaining payments in December. Those born after the 10th who did not qualify for the December 3 and December 11 disability checks or deposits can get their money on either December 18 or December 24.

Eligibility for SSDI on December 18 & 24

To be eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance on December 18 you must have been born after the 10th but before the 21st. That is from the 11-20. Of course, having filed and approval are required.

If you are an SSI recipient, this will not be your payday. This is because those who receive SSI and SSDI receive their payments on the third of the month. So, they need to wait until January 3 to get their money if they are receiving SSI simultaneously.

If you got benefits before May 1997, your payday will be on January 3, 2025, too. To get SSDI on December 24, you must have your birthday from 21-31. That is, on the last 10 days of the month.

Why is the Social Security Disability Insurance payment on Tuesday, December 24, and not on Wednesday, December 25?

The reason why the SSDI payment is not on the 25th is because it is a Federal Holiday. Federal Holidays cannot be paydays for Social Security Disability Insurance or retirement benefits.

Hence, the Social Security Administration (SSA) needs to set a new payday for those payment dates that fall on Federal Holidays. Generally, SSA issues these payments on the previous business day.

This also happens when a payday is due on the weekend. So, there can be several changes during the year. As for the SSDI payment amounts, on average checks and deposits will be about $1,542. High earners can receive up to $3,822.

How do SSDI payment dates vary from month to month?

If your birthday is from the 1st to the 10th of the month, you’ll receive your SSDI payment on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
If your birthday is from the 11th to the 20th, you’ll receive your payment on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
If your birthday is from the 21st to the 31st, you’ll receive your payment on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
