Social Security confirms the SSI payment in late February

Some Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients may be surprised when they see Social Security’s payment schedule for February. Even if they got their February check or direct deposit on January 31, 2025, there is a new payday on February 28 for all recipients.

As a matter of fact, the February 28 payment is NOT a bonus or extra payment. It is simply the March payment ahead of schedule. Therefore, it will be the third month in a row that SSI recipients get money before the normal payment date. No doubt this is great because Supplemental Security is only for Americans with limited resources and income. Thus, this supplement is essential to get by.

Will all SSI recipients get a new payment on February 28?

As long as you have not lost your eligibility, this will be the only payday for all SSI recipients in the United States. Remember that one key condition is to have little to no resources.

Hence, those who have extra earnings and exceed the limits will lose their eligibility. If you win the lottery or make a lot of money from work, you may no longer qualify.

For your information, not all Supplemental Security Income recipients qualify in the same way. If you have a qualifying disability and get over it, you must report it because you will lose your benefits when you get over this qualifying disability. Other ways to qualify are your age, at least 65, and being blind.

How much will SSI payments be on February 28?

If you are an essential person, you will receive SSI payments of up to $484. Those who are the only recipients who qualify in their household can get up to $967.

Eligible married couples will receive the largest SSI payments on February 28, 2025. After the 2025 COLA increase, they can receive checks or direct deposits of up to $1,450.

These maximum amounts will remain the same through December 30, 2025. It will be after then when the Social Security Administration will apply the 2026 COLA increase. On average, Supplemental Security payments are about $713 with a 2.5% COLA boost.
