2 SSI benefit payments scheduled for May, confirmed by SSA

2 SSI benefit payments scheduled for May, confirmed by SSA

The last SSI payment was delivered on April 1, 2025. Therefore, if you have already filed and Social Security’s decision may soon be sent, here are the upcoming payments for eligible recipients in the United States. For your information, there are only 12 payments per year, so you can only get up to 1 payment per month.

However, some SSI payments need to be delivered ahead of schedule. This happens when the payday falls on the weekend or on a holiday. Take for example the January payment on New Year’s Day, it needs to be scheduled for the previous business day. That is the reason why there can be two paydays during the same month. This benefit is only for people with a disability, aged 65+ or blind people with little to no resources and a low income.

SSI maximum payment amounts in May

The largest Supplemental Security Income payment will be up to $967 for an individual and up to $1,450 for married couples. Of course, to get up to $1,450 you must both be receiving this Federal payment. The requirement to get $1,450 is that you get no reductions.

On average, SSI payments are worth $715. Depending on your age group, the average payment may be lower or higher. For example, seniors on this benefit who are aged 65 or older can get about $591.12 on average.

Under-18s can receive about $836 on average from the Supplemental Security Income program. Those recipients aged 18-64 can get about $762 on average. Apply as soon as possible if you have limited income and resources.

Category Average Payment Maximum Payment
Individual $715 $967
Married Couple (both eligible) N/A $1,450
Under 18 $836 N/A
Aged 18–64 $762 N/A

SSI payments on May 1 and May 30

The Supplemental Security Income payment will be delivered on the normal payday. In this case, May 1 will be Thursday, so you will receive this Federal payment before the first weekend in May.

The June payment for Supplemental Security will take place on May 30 because June 1 is Sunday. May 31 falls on a Saturday so it is not possible to deliver the checks and direct deposits on that day.

Therefore, those who remain eligible and qualify for SSI will receive their monthly payments at the beginning and end of May. If you are not sure about the maximum amounts, check the below.
