The Social Security Administration confirms a retirement benefit payment on April 9, 2025. This direct deposit or check will be for all the retirees who meet SSA‘s requirements regardless of their age.

However, this article will focus on the maximum Social Security amounts and average payments for retirees aged 62 & 70. In this way, all American workers who have not filed yet will see the differences between early or late filing in the United States.

How can retirees receive the Social Security payment on April 9?

In order to receive a retirement benefit payment on April 9 you must be in the following situation whether you are 62 years old, 70 or any other age:

  • you began getting Social Security after April 30, 1997
  • you are not on Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • you remain eligible and have not broken SSA rules
  • your birthday falls from the 1st to the 10th (regardless of the month)

Some retirees aged 62 or 70 may meet all these conditions but the last one. The birth date can allow you to get the Wednesday payment on April 16. For example, if you were born from 11-20. Or even the April 23 Social Security check or deposit if born from 21-31.

Maximum Social Security at 62 & 70 on April 9

62-year-olds can benefit from getting more direct deposits or check in retirement with early filing. Nevertheless, they get a 30% reduction so their monthly payment decreases a great deal.

For example, if you filed at 62, you can get up to $2,831 on  April 9, 2025. But those who filed at 70 can receive up to $5,108 Therefore, there is a considerable difference in the maximum amount for really high earners.

On average, a 62-year-old could receive about 1,311 as of June 2024, and about $1,343 in 2025. Retirees aged 70 could get about $2,067 in June 2024 and $2,118 in 2025. For your information, Social Security payments have increased in 2025 due to the Cost-of-Living Adjustment increase (2025 COLA boost for SSA).
