As of February 2024, Social Security retirement benefits are worth $1,980. That is the average payment for retired workers. Spouses of retired workers get about $932 on average on the worker’s record.

Although these monthly payments may seem either too low or too high, depending on the worker, there could be maximum amounts too. Social Security maximum benefits in 2025 can be up to $5,108 at 70. At Full Retirement Age, a worker can get up to $4,018. If you file at 62 in 2025, it can be up to $2,831.

Social Security payments in the first week of April

Generally, the first April payment arrives on the 3rd. In this case, it will be no exception and those who qualify will receive their monthly payment on April 3, 2025.

For your information, those who have been for longer on Social Security may qualify. In fact, to get the payment on April 3, you must have started collecting benefits before May 1997.

Anyway, this is not the only way to qualify for Social Security on the third. Those retirees who are also receiving Supplemental Security Income from the Federal Government qualify for the payment on the 3rd. This group may get lower retirement benefits because SSI is only for low-income citizens.

Social Security’s schedule after April 3

Those retirees who are not on SSI and who did not start collecting benefits before May 1997 have 3 different paydays in April. All these paydays will take place on a Wednesday.

Nevertheless, the direct deposits will be delivered on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in April. So, there will be one round after the other and with a 7-day difference.

The payments for those retirees who started getting Social Security after April 30, 1997, will be due on:

  • April 9: if your birthday falls from the 1st to the 10th
  • April 16: if you were born from 11-20
  • April 23: for retirees whose birth date is from 21-31
