If you are one of the more than 42 million taxpayers who have filed your 2024 tax refund, you must be wondering when your IRS direct deposit will be delivered by the Internal Revenue Service in the United States.

On average, the refund amount is $3,453, and the average direct deposit is worth $3,505 on average as of February 21, 2025. If you have filed your 2024 tax return, it is time to check the possible day when your tax refund may be delivered by the IRS.

IRS tax refund payment schedule for March 9-15

Those taxpayers who filed on February 16 may receive their 2024 tax refunds on March 9, 2025. For your information, the IRS claims that you will generally receive your tax refund within 21 days if:

  • you request direct deposit
  • your tax return is complete and accurate

March 9-15 payment schedule

  • Tax return filed on February 16: IRS payment possibly due on March 9
  • Tax return filed on February 17: Payment possibly due on March 10
  • Tax return filed on February 18: Payment possibly due on March 11
  • Tax return filed on February 19: Payment possibly due on March 12
  • Tax return filed on February 20: Payment possibly due on March 13
  • Tax return filed on February 21: Payment possibly due on March 14
  • Tax return filed on February 22: Payment possibly due on March 15

IRS payment schedule after March 15

Many taxpayers have filed their tax return after February 22, therefore, they will need to wait for about 21 days to get their IRS direct deposit. If you have not filed a federal income tax return yet, the deadline to do so is April 15.

Those citizens who need extra time, will also have until April 15 to pay taxes and to get an extension of time to file. IRS does not recommend requesting paper checks because they are not as safe or as fast as direct deposits. To know when you will exactly receive your deposit, visit the IRS tool “Where’s my refund?”.

  • Tax return filed on February 23: IRS payment possibly due on March 16
  • Tax return filed on February 24: Payment possibly due on March 17
  • Tax return filed on February 25: Payment possibly due on March 18
  • Tax return filed on February 26: Payment possibly due on March 19
  • Tax return filed on February 27: Payment possibly due on March 20
  • Tax return filed on February 28: Payment possibly due on March 21
  • Tax return filed on March 1: Payment possibly due on March 22
  • Tax return filed on March 2: Payment possibly due on March 23
  • Tax return filed on March 3: Payment possibly due on March 24
  • Tax return filed on March 4: Payment possibly due on March 25
