As a matter of fact, most American taxpayers have already received their stimulus checks. However, the IRS claims that there are eligible recipients who have not filed yet. Those who filed a 2021 tax return and did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit have received an automatic payment if they qualified for this Economic Impact Payment.

However, the IRS cannot do that because some taxpayers have not filed. Therefore, they are missing out on a great opportunity to receive a huge payment from the Internal Revenue Service. Some may have not even claimed their 2021 Child Tax Credit. Bear in mind that it is not too late to claim these benefits if you don’t normally file.

IRS deadline to claim 2021 stimulus check

It is not too late to claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit when you don’t normally file a tax return because the deadline is April 15, 2025. Some people may also be eligible because they did not receive the full amount of their 2021 stimulus check.

So, it is advisable to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit before the April 15, 2025 deadline is over. Do not forget that if you want to get this money and you qualify, you will have to file a 2021 tax return.

In this way, your Recovery Rebate Credit, that is, your stimulus check, will be included in your tax refund. Some workers with a really low income are not required to file. However, it is advisable to check your eligibility. If you think you qualify, you can get help from the IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance).

Is the IRS VITA free?

The IRS VITA program is totally free if you are an eligible taxpayer. So, they could help you claim your stimulus check through the Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2021 return.

For your information, to qualify you must be a taxpayer who makes 67,000 or less. People with a disability or people who are limited English-speaking taxpayers may also qualify.

IRS VITA Locators

All you have to do is find an IRS VITA center near you. These sites are generally located at neighborhood or community centers. Also, some VITA centers can be found in schools, libraries or even shopping malls.

The best way to find a VITA site to claim your stimulus check is to visit the IRS official website. The Internal Revenue Service has the VITA Locator Tool to find the place that suits you best at: https://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/. If you prefer it, you can simply call 800-906-9887.

Do not forget that if you have an IRS online account, you will be able to view the total amounts of your Economic Impact Payments. What is more, it will be extremely helpful if you need to download any essential documents to file your 2021 tax return to claim the stimulus checks.
