The United States Government official website states that the Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Program awards up to 55,000 immigrant visas per year. Before applying for this program, it is advisable to check your eligibility.

Green Card Lottery eligibility

For your information, the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, also known as DV Program, makes Green Card available to natives of countries with low immigration rates.

The number of Green Cards this Diversity Visa Program is limited, but still, it is a large number, so there are still possibilities to get it. The requirements are:

  • meeting work or education requirements
    • having graduated from
      • high school
      • an equivalent to high school or
    • having qualifying work experience
  • being a native of a country with a low immigration rate to the USA

How to register for the Green Card Lottery

The Registration for the 2026 Green Card Lottery was from October 2, 2024, through November 7, 2024. However, there is no new date for this DV Lottery. The thing is it changes annually. Visit the link provided above for more information.

Once the Green Lottery register is open, you will need to read the instructions and apply online. The online application is free, but once you have been selected for the interview, you will have to pay the required fee.

Take into account that this Green Card Lottery has very strict deadlines. Once you have successfully completed your online application, keep your confirmation number. It will be required in the future if you need to check the status of your application.
