Social Security Work Credits in 2026: 40 Credits at $1,890 Each and the Exact Requirements for SSDI and SSI

Millions of Americans rely on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for monthly financial support. With April just around the corner, it’s essential for recipients to know the exact payment dates, especially as any delay or update can impact household budgets. Here’s everything you need to know about April 2025 SSDI and SSI payment dates, amounts, and eligibility.

SSI Payments Arrive on April 1, SSDI Follows 48 Hours Later

SSI benefits will be sent out on April 1, 2025. This means that those who also qualify for SSDI may receive their Disability Insurance checks just two days later, on April 3.

There are two main groups who receive SSDI on April 3:

  • Beneficiaries who also receive SSI (dual entitlement)
  • Those who started collecting SSDI before May 1997

If you’re eligible for both SSI and SSDI, it often means you have limited income and resources. While some SSI recipients qualify for the full monthly benefit, others may receive less depending on their personal circumstances.

In April 2025, the maximum SSI benefit is:

  • $967 for individuals
  • $1,450 for married couples

On average, SSI payments are about $715, but the exact amount will vary.

SSDI Payment Dates & Average Check Amounts

The average SSDI payment is approximately $1,580 per month, according to the latest Social Security Administration (SSA) data from February 2025. However, if you meet the strict criteria for the maximum SSDI benefit, you could receive up to $4,018 per month in 2025.

After the initial April 3 payment, the SSA will issue three more rounds of SSDI checks based on your birthdate:

  • April 9: If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th
  • April 16: If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th
  • April 23: If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st

Make sure to check your birth date and benefit status to determine your specific payment date.
