Colorado stimulus check tabor 100 dollars

This week, more than 111,000 people in Mesa County, Colorado, will receive a $100 aid check. What is the main requirement? To be a registered voter and at least 18 years old before November 25, 2024.

This refund is part of a rule called the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR), which requires local governments to return surplus money to taxpayers. This year, the county collected nearly $11.4 million more than TABOR allows.

Who can receive the TABOR stimulus check and when?

Stimulus checks will be sent starting December 16, 2024. If you meet the requirements, you don’t need to do anything else: the refund will be sent directly to the address you have registered as a voter.

To receive this refund, you must meet two important requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old before November 25, 2024.
  • Be registered as a voter in Mesa County.
  • It is important to note that just being a taxpayer or resident of the county is not enough. Eligibility depends solely on being registered as an active voter.

Stimulus checks will be sent starting December 16, 2024. If you meet the requirements, you don’t need to do anything else: the refund will be sent directly to the address you have registered as a voter.

Why is this refund being issued?

The Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR), which was approved by voters, sets a limit on the growth of local government revenue. When revenues exceed that limit — as happened this year in Mesa County — the extra money must be returned to taxpayers.

The county is returning money to 114,839 registered active voters, giving back the excess funds to the community:

  • Check amount: $100.
  • Delivery will begin on December 16, 2024.
  • Requirements: you must be 18 years old before November 25 and registered as an active voter in Mesa, Colorado.
  • If you’re unsure about your voter status, you can check it on Mesa County’s official website.

These initiatives, in addition to following the law, value community participation. If you meet the requirements, your aid check is on the way. Great news to end the year!

Can receive the $100 check if registered to vote after the eligibility deadline?

Mesa County is issuing $100 refund checks to active registered voters as part of Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) requirements, which limit government revenue growth and require excess funds to be returned to taxpayers.

The refunds are only for registered voters as of the November 25 deadline. Being a resident or taxpayer alone is not enough to qualify.

The refund checks will be mailed out starting the week of December 16, 2024 to the address on file for eligible registered voters. No action is needed if you met the age and registration deadline.
