Millions of Americans were waiting for the Social Security Administration to pay billions of dollars in retroactive payment in 2025. All this is possible thanks to the actions that support the SSA’s Fairness Act.

President Trump’s goal was to quickly implement the Fairness Act. Through March 4, 2025, the Agency has sent eligible recipients of the retroactive payments a total of $7.5 billion.

How many people have been paid by Social Security?

As of March 4, 2025, the Social Security Administration has issued more than 1,127,723 payments. Therefore, more than 1 million Americans have already received the money they qualified for retroactive payments in the United States.

If you do not know why the Government is issuing retroactive payments, let’s have a quick look at it. As a matter of fact, they are the result of the repeal of both, Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision.

For your information, the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset either reduced or eliminated Social Security benefits. Actually, SSA claims that it affected 3.2 million Americans. So, they received a pension based on the work that was not covered by SSA. Thus, they did not pay taxes to SSA.

Social Security & retroactive payments in March

“The Agency continues to pay remaining retroactive payments“. Therefore, you may still receive the money from the Social Security Administration if you did not get it on March 4, 2025.

What is more, many other Americans are waiting for higher monthly payments. The thing is more than one million Americans have received retroactive payments, but others will not get the higher monthly payments in March.

In fact, they will receive higher monthly benefit payments from Social Security in April. So, this increase will be for eligible people’s March benefit due in April 2025. In general, the Americans who will benefit from this new law will be some firefighters, teachers, and police officers, among others, in many different States.
