The good news is that if you need to recertify your SNAP benefit payments in the State of New York, you will not need to visit your local office. As a matter of fact, you will be able to renew your Food Stamps by mail or by using the Internet.

Generally, Food Stamp recipients get a recertification packet two months before their SNAP benefits come to an end. This recertification kit includes an application and an appointment for an interview. Check page one of this package for more details about the interview.

2 important steps in the SNAP recertification process in New York State

In the first place, you must send your recertification application. Then, once you have submitted it, you can be interviewed. Save the date of your appointment so as not to miss this essential step.

If you prefer it, you can also send this application by mail. However, it will be faster and safer if you submit it by using the Internet. The website to do so is: https://mybenefits.ny.gov/mybenefits/begin

The moment you submit your SNAP application to renew your Food Stamps you need to wait until the date your appointment comes. If you miss the given appointment, it will be your responsibility to arrange a new one to recertify. Make sure you do it before the end of your recertification period.

Final step in the SNAP recertification process

Once the interview is over, you may need to submit additional information or documents to check your SNAP eligibility. This is generally done to check your monthly income.

However, it could be any other documents related to other personal circumstances. Those Food Stamp recipients who need additional information in the State of New York can call the toll-free OTDA Hotline: 1-800-342-3009.

Those who prefer it can simply contact their local Department of Social Services in their area. For more details about locations, visit: https://otda.ny.gov/workingfamilies/dss.asp
