Non-filers should pay close attention to this IRS (Internal Revenue Service) reminder. As a matter of fact, there is an approaching deadline to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit if you have not filed your 2021 tax return yet.

Once the deadline is over, the Agency will not be able to send you this money and the United States Treasury will take it. Therefore, it is of vital importance to check if you qualify.

IRS deadline to get the 2021 Economic Impact payments

Most people know the Economic Impact Payments as Stimulus checks. Those who did not file a 2021 tax return may qualify for this payment. Some taxpayers filed but they did not claim stimulus checks.

Luckily, the IRS sent automatic payments in late January. However, some taxpayers have neither filed nor claimed the Recovery Rebate Credit. Since the deadline to claim it is also April 15, 2025, time is running out.

For your information, the Recovery Rebate Credit is a refundable credit for individuals. Actually, it could be for those who did not receive one or more stimulus checks.

IRS suggests doing this

The Agency encourages taxpayers who have not filed a 2021 tax return to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit if they qualify. They may be eligible for a refund if they file.

Getting the stimulus check through filing your 2021 tax return and claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit is possible even if you are not required to file. Some low-income workers ignore they may qualify.

It is also possible for those workers with a business whose income was minimal or non-existent explained the Agency. If you need further information to claim this stimulus check, you can visit the official Internal Revenue Service website at: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-special-payments-going-this-month-to-1-million-taxpayers-who-did-not-claim-2021-recovery-rebate-credit-encourages-non-filers-about-approaching-deadline-to-claim-credits

The IRS reminds taxpayers that any Recovery Rebate Credits received doesn’t count as income when determining eligibility for Federal benefits like SNAP, WIC, TANF, or SSI.
