The IRS announces a new deadline for some Americans

The IRS has recently made an important announcement. There will be tax relief for taxpayers who were impacted by wildfires in the State of California. For your information, the Agency states that several deadlines have been postponed to October 15, 2025.

The good news is that this tax relief will be for both businesses and individuals in some parts of California. Of course, your area must have been affected by straight-line winds and wildfires that started on January 7, 2025.

IRS announces more than that

If you were affected by the wildfires in some part of California on January 7, 2025, you now have until October 15, 2025, to file several federal individual and business tax returns, and most importantly, to make tax payments as well.

This tax relief comes after FEMA’s (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) disaster declaration. Thus, if you are currently living in Los Angeles County or you have a business in that area you qualify for these changes.

Once a FEMA declaration is made, the IRS can allow taxpayers to get an automatic time extension and also allows them to postpone tax-payment deadlines. Of course, you must be living in a disaster area and affected by wildfires.

When is the IRS deadline to file your 2024 tax return if you are not affected by wildfires?

The deadline to file the 2024 federal income tax return if you do not qualify for tax relief is April 15, 2025. Therefore, you should have filed and make any tax payments you owe the IRS before the deadline comes to an end.

Bear in mind that there are more deadlines postponed if you qualify for tax relief in California. As a matter of fact, this tax relief also applies to:
