Next Social Security & SSI payments for couples in January 2025

Millions of American couples rely on Social Security or SSI payments in 2025. On some occasions, they need both benefit programs to make ends meet in the United States. Not having saved enough money for retirement and an exorbitant cost of living is the reason why many couples need this essential money from both programs.

On average, a senior couple who are both collecting Social Security retirement benefits get about $3,089. Bear in mind that as of December 2024, a single retired worker got $1,927. In January 2025, it has become $1,976 after the Cost-of-Living Adjustment. But what about couples on SSI?

SSI payments are lower than Social Security

Even using the maximum amounts for SSI, Social Security payments are much higher. This is because one is a Federal supplement, while the other is for the work you have done and the taxes you have paid throughout your work history.

A couple can receive an SSI payment of up to $1,450. However, it is important to highlight that the average check for a single person on SSI is about $698. When it comes to paydays, there is an SSI payment scheduled for January 31, 2025.

Actually, it will be the check or direct deposit for February sent in advance. Therefore, all eligible recipients will get their SSI payment, which will be due days after the last Social Security payment in the U.S.

Social Security payments for couples

The Administration is about to issue a new retirement benefit payment on January 15, 2025. This is the payday for single (or couple) retired workers. For your information, this will be the payday for those retirees, whether they are a couple or not, whose birthdays are from the 11th to the 20th.

The following Social Security payment for couples and single retired workers will be delivered on January 22, 2025. This will be your payment date if your birthday is from the 21st to the 31st.

If you got benefits before May 1997, you will qualify for the February 3 payment. Those on both SSI and retirement benefits will also get money from the Agency on the third. Were you born from 1-10, February 12 will be your next payday.
